(SKU: LSB100D1C6) Within the Mahayana Buddhist pantheon, Tara is regarded as the most adored of all the goddesses. This statue of Tara was found at Talampitiya, which is located within the Kurunegala District. It is a durable statue made of an alloy of silver and stands 16.5 centimetres tall. The goddess is shown here in the posture of Virasana and the representation of Samadhi. A small Buddha statue originally occupied the vacant niche in front of the hair-gathering Jatamakuta. The niche is encircled by flame-like formations, and directly below it are the heads of two Makaras (dragons), with their jaws facing in opposite directions. Even though the eyelids are only partially closed, the look on the face is fairly serious. The upper body is naked and absent of any jewellery or decorations. A flimsy material wraps around the lower body from the knees all the way down to the anklets. Researchers have determined that this statue dates back to the 8th or 10th century A.C.
