Famed as a surfing beach locally and internationally, the distance from Colombo to Arugam Bay is approximately 320km while the drive will take about 7 - 8 hours. The nearest major town to Arugam Bay is Ampara while there are buses that run from Colombo and a number of major cities in the island to the East.
